Noosa Everglades and Australia Zoo
Noosa was quite a surprise for me as I did not have any plans when arriving in the beach town. But there are plenty activities around Noosa and the area is also nice to just spend some days at the beach or surfing. My two larger trips there were to the Noosa Everglades and Australia Zoo.
One of only two existing Everglades in the world is in Noosa and in my opinion definitely worth a visit. I did a day tour on a boat with optional canoeing in the afternoon. I was lucky to have experienced the Everglades during rain and sun, which leave really different impressions of the forest scenery. Exploring the everglades in the canoe felt like we were the only people around in the area and the water was so calm that the forest mirrored clearly in the river water.
Another must-do stop from Noosa for me was the famous Australia Zoo. Growing up watching Steve Irwins Australian adventures, it was amazing to actually go to the place that he called his home. The zoo was a lot smaller and more familiar than I thought and Steve Irwin’s presence is still everywhere. The famous Croc show was definitely my favorite and watching these iconic animals being fed was fascinating. Even though I always visit zoos with a mixed feeling, I felt that the animal habitats were in a really good condition and the shows were really educating and raising awareness for wildlife protection. Also really worth a stop is the animal hospital just located next to the main zoo facility, where a huge sea turtle and a baby koala were being treated during my visit.
